Hello everyone, you know what “Tempura” is, right?
I’m not talking about the battered, deep-fried, crispy type that we all know! That’s called “Agemon” in Kagawa. (In some areas it’s even known as “Fried Kamaboko”.)
I’d like to introduce you to Kagawa “Tempura”!
Jointly established by Kagawa and Ehime prefectures to promote the region, this is “Setouchi Shunsai kan” located in Shimbashi, Tokyo.
Known as “Tempura” in Kagawa, what a wide selection of fish cakes they have on display in the refrigerated section! Local people really LOVE their “Tempura”! Hira-ten, Hoso-ten, Ebi-ten, Sumaki, etc… there are many types. I heard a staff member say that weird flavors like “Takoyaki-ten” are popular these days…
I found a really cute one in this section…
About the size of a baby’s fist, it’s called Cheese-ten and Ebi maru kun (Mr. shrimp ball).
Just putting it on a plate… so lovely.
The perfect snack to go with beer, or your favorite alcoholic drink!
The inside looks like this. Ebi maru kun has a whole succulent shrimp inside.
From kids to adults, everyone loves Cheese-ten.
Giving it its distinctive flavors, the bountiful fish catch of the Setouchi Inland Sea is used to make Kagawa Tempura.
With its natural sweetness and crispy texture, it’s hard to stop eating…
Please check it out at the store.
