Hyogo is home to many delicious sweets…♪
When I asked Yuka Ueyama, manager of the “Hyogo Waku waku kan” antenna shop, what item of stock she recommends the highest, she chose this without any hesitation.
“Almond Butter” from Himeji city’s Cafe de Monsieur.
It was originally just a part of the café’s menu, but as it turned out to be so popular with customers, the company began marketing it as a specialist item! It got and continues to get loads of media attention and has been a smash hit!
I was told to “spread plenty on my bread♡”.
Though served with sandwich-bread at Cafe de Monsieur, there are no hard and fast rules about what kind of bread to eat almond butter with.
For ease of spreading, it is best at room temperature.
Preheat a toaster-oven or grill to about 250℃ for about 3 minutes. Spread plenty of butter over your bread. (At the cafe, they put about 35g of almond butter on each piece, which looks a little too much, but is just fine!) Pop it in. The butter will start boiling up… continue toasting until golden brown.
The gorgeous aroma of toasted bread and almond butter fills the entire room!!

I had imagined it to be like peanut butter, but it’s totally different.
It’s sweet but not too sweet, so even those who are not huge fans of sweets can enjoy it, too!
However, if you do have a sweet tooth, there is an even better way to eat it♡
Toast in the same way as above, but drizzle some honey on it.
Almond + butter + honey = Super-yummy!
Great for weekend brunch!
Other than Almond Butter, there are many other delicious Hyogo products on offer at “Hyogo Waku waku kan”. As they carry a lot of stuff that can only usually be bought within the prefecture, the shop is particularly great for “Hyogo expats”. Please stop by!
