Held all over Japan since 2010, this event makes food lovers drool just hearing the name. The 6th event will be held this year in Minami-chō, Kaifu-gun, Tokushima Prefecture on November 15th (Sat) and 16th (Sun).

Under normal circumstances it isn’t possible to eat such ‘local’ donburi unless you visit the area they’re from. This event, however, brings all these dishes together in one place. It would be a waste not to go!

This mouth-watering extravaganza will be held in the parking lot of “Yakuō-ji” temple, which incidentally, is the 23rd temple of Shikoku Hachijū Hachi kasho (The 88 Shikoku Temple Pilgrimage), also known as Ohenro-san.

Collectively known as “Minami-awa Don”, south Tokushima, where Yakuō-ji temple is located, aka “Shikoku no Migishita (Bottom right of Shikoku)”, is home to many local donburi dishes. They really are uniquely “Shikoku no Migishita”! The area is attracting a lot of attention as the ‘holy land’ of local donburi now!

From among the great variety of Minami-awa Don, 10 kinds will be on offer at the Summit. Here are a few examples:

“Miami-awa Migi-agari Don (Chicken and squid on rice)”,

“Awabi Don (Abalone on rice)”,

“Hamo-ten Don (Daggertooth Pike Conger Tempura on rice)”,

“Fuwa fuwa Ika to Awaodori no Donburi (Fluffy squid and chicken on rice)”,

“Niku Niku Niku Don (Pork on rice)”

Also, on Saturday (11/15), there will be a Tuna filleting show and live music. On Sunday (11/16), there will be a cooking show by Chinami Hamauchi, and a Minami-awa sweets contest. So, fathers, mothers, kids, everybody can enjoy this event!

Let’s go on a pilgrimage to the holy land of Donburi!
