Situated in southwest Ehime prefecture, the Futami town area is known for its beautiful sunsets. Attracting numerous visitors year round, from any point along the seashore, you can see the evening sun sinking below the horizon of the Seto Inland Sea.
In particular, Futami Seaside Park has even received certification as "the holy ground for lovers" from an NPO local community vitalization center, which has led to the area receiving even more attention as a date spot!
Evening hours in Futami Seaside Park… A promenade with a lovely ambience can be found by the seashore. Called "lovers' cape", the very end of the promenade sticks out a bit towards the sea.
At the very end of lovers' cape there’s an especially popular spot; a monument made with a sunset theme.
By moving slightly as the sun continues to set, one can maintain a view of the setting sun in the cavity for a surprisingly long time.
"You can't see it from there, come here~!", couples laugh and chatter…
Eventually the sun sets further and you can no longer see it through the cavity. Even so, the climax of the beautiful sunset show is yet to come!
Just before the sun sets, lovers head towards the breakwater.
Actually the breakwater is the best location for seeing the sunset!
When conditions allow, you can even see the sun setting on the horizon; it's truly romantic~!
People gather in the park every evening to see the beautiful sunsets. There is a large parking area along with a roadside station combined with a center for specialties and a restaurant. The area has also been selected as one of Japans top 100 places to see the sunset.
