Hina no Sato Katsuura is a roadside station located right next to the venue where the Big Hina Matsuri is held [https://setouchifinder.com/en/detail/535], and we think it’s worth a visit!

Located in Katsuura district, Tokushima prefecture, Katsuura is a town well-known for its mandarins and strawberries.

And naturally, lined up on the roadside station’s shelves, there are plenty of well-known products made using these delicious fruits.

And from among those items, yours truly would like to introduce the TOP 3 recommended products!
BEST No.1: Original Ice Cream

You should absolutely try one or more of these original ice creams!

Though there are a myriad of flavors, the most popular is strawberry. What is most surprising is the amount of fruit flesh used.

Believe it or not, out of the ice cream ingredients, 75% is strawberry flesh! It’s an ice cream made almost entirely out of strawberries. By the way, even the famous Häagen-Dazs ice creams have a fruit ratio of 23%!

This must surpass all the other brands in the world of strawberry ice creams.

It even has dried strawberry mixed in – it’s the best!!

Some of you may’ve noticed it in the photograph above, but the other flavor we’d like to introduce is natto (fermented bean) ice cream – it has a slightly dangerous aroma.

“I wonder if it’s going to be good…?” Even I’m a little bit unconvinced.

“It’s surprisingly good,” said a roadside station employee, deceiving me… I believed those words and decided to take the challenge.

…the result is…

it was impossible for me! I’m sorry!

Just to be clear, I think this will divide people into those who like it and those who don’t. Apparently those who like it really love it…

BEST No.2 is the Katsuura grown Mandarin Straight Juice

This is what you definitely should drink.

It’s 100% satsuma mandarin juice made using “storage mandarins” that are ripened in storage. Doing so makes the flavor richer, and the juice super-delicious!

It’s really veeeeeery rich.

You should absolutely try it.
BEST No.3 is the Three Flavor Dressing Set

This is what you definitely should buy.

The set includes “Wild Rocambole Dressing”, “Strawberry Dressing” and “Mandarin Dressing”.

Again, it’s a little bit hard to imagine the flavor, especially the “Strawberry” version, and that’s why I tasted it.

As it’s completely the color of strawberries, I thought it would be a sweet sauce, but that’s not really the case. Although the sweetness lingers somewhat, the acidity of the strawberries is brought out.

Oh man! It’s really quite addictive!!

It’s completely different from the flavor I imagined, but as they look good, too, I really recommend the set.

Moving on, there is also a rental service for bicycles and electric mopeds at Hina no Sato Katsuura.

As Katsuura is a place known for its cherry blossoms, and cycling around feels so nice, do come by for a visit during the Katsuura Cherry Blossom Festival season (usually from late March to early April)
