First in Japan! Premium accommodations produced by “Studio Mumbai.”/LOG (Onomichi-shi, Hiroshima)

Onomichi City in Hiroshima, on the northern part of “Shimanami Kaido” (which is a Mecca for cyclists) is an attractive sightseeing spot with a tasteful townscape.
We are introducing you a new accommodation called “LOG,” located on the mountain-side, which is paired with “ONOMICHI U2” on the seaside.

Renovation of a “miraculous” building which was built only with human power at the time

▲A well-known slope-way with stone paving has appeared in some movies and dramas

“LOG” is located halfway up the slope-way leading to Senko-ji Temple, the landmark of Onomichi.
The accommodations were opened after renovating the modern “Shinmichi Apartment” residence, built in 1950s.
The road in front of this valuable apartment is very narrow and it is obvious that cars or heavy machinery cannot enter.
This led us to wonder how hard it must have been for workers to build this reinforced concrete building without the use of anything but human strength.
“LOG” opened as a base for sprucing up the quite mountain-side area, as compared with the seaside facing Onomichi Channel.

The outer appearance of “LOG” is simple, but its interior is premium.

▲The color of the exterior is soft, and adapts itself to the surroundings, such as the trees and atmosphere.

The soft, pink-beige color of LOG’s exterior is very simple.
However, when you once step into one of the rooms, you can feel the “special” atmosphere inside.

▲Room 308, a standard room with 2 beds. The room charge starts from 37,800 yen (capacity: 4 people).
This room was used as a sort of workshop, where the people tore and pasted traditional Japanese handmade paper to finish the interior.

Japanese paper has been pasted on the floors, walls, and ceilings of all the rooms.
This handmade paper is “Kurotani Washi,” made by Wataru Hatano, based in Kyoto.
The very unique texture of this paper is like leather, and its color has a lot of warmth.
The combination of the light from the windows and the paper creates a very comfortable atmosphere.

You can see marks of trial-and-error everywhere.

▲The gallery on 2nd floor. You can see the process of the completion of “LOG.”

The most interesting point of “LOG” is that you can trace the process of PRAXIS (the Ancient Greek term for translating an idea into action).
“Studio Mumbai,” which worked on the renovation, values “experiments and verifications.”
Therefore, they carefully verified and repeatedly inspected the materials used for each room, the techniques of plastering, the colors used for painting, and so on.

▲An example of breakfast

The meals are supervised by a cook specialist, Ai Hosokawa, and mainly consist of foodstuffs from the Setouchi area, such as vegetables contracted from the farmers on the islands or the mountainous areas.
You can taste the best of each ingredient.

▲The library on 3rd floor is open for the guests, and here you can see great technique used by the plasterers.

The building of “LOG” harmonizes with its surrounding environment, because it has kept the structure of the building as it was, and re-used the soil walls and roof tiles at the site.
Let’s explore inside of the building and find the sorts of comforts which can never be made by scrapping and rebuilding.

You can enjoy “LOG” even if you do not stay overnight there.

▲You can see a view of Onomichi from the window of the café & bar. LOG original Chai is highly recommended.

You can stop by “LOG” even you do not stay overnight there.
It is nice to spend some time in the garden, enjoy shopping at the shop, chat with your friends at the café, or participate in some event such as the pre-event for the “ONOMICHI FILM FESTIVAL.”

This is the place where you find and reconsider the richness in your daily life, and not a place where you merely “consume” enjoyment.
