When you travel, it is nice to stay at the hotels in the city, which are very convenient.
However, why not consider staying at an accommodation where you can have the entire space to yourself?
We will introduce several inns, including an old house built more than 100 years ago and a villa on the seaside.
#1. These facilities arranged by carpenters who specialize in temple and shrines are gorgeous! /
Sumiregusa (Miyajima, Hiroshima)
“Sumiregusa,” a townhouse which can only be rented to one group per day, is located in Miyajima, the island which has Itsukushima Shrine, a designated world cultural heritage site.

It is about a 45-minute drive from Matsuyama City.
“Takinomoto Kondo-ke” is located in the country-side mountains with beautiful terraced paddy fields and a river with fireflies in early summer.
Let’s have dinner and breakfast in the room at a horigotatsu (a low table over a hole in the floor).
You can choose your dinner: from some wild game dishes, tempura inside the house, or barbecue in the garden.
Just enjoy great meals using fresh local and seasonal ingredients!

The atmosphere of “Hisa” makes you feel at home and the size is rather compact.

#6. An inn where you fully taste the elegance of Japanese architecture / Co-machi no Ie (Utazu, Ayauta-gun, Kagawa)
There are 2 accommodations in which people rent an entire house for a stay in Utazu, on the west side of Kagawa Prefecture.
These 2 accommodations are supervised by Alex Kerr, who has done renovation of some old Japanese style houses in Iya (Tokushima) and Kyoto.
One is called “Rinsui,” which is an old renovated Japanese house and “Sezan,” with a taste more like that of an old Western house.
The interior of “Rinsui” has an earthen floor, a main pillar, and large beams, and was renovated with these characteristic parts of Japanese old houses with relaxing and calm atmosphere with their history.
The highlight of “Sezan” is an expansive living room done in walnut.
These renovated houses may be old, but cutting-edge technologies have been installed at both.
This allows you to stay comfortably there, just like your home, or even more comfortable than your daily life.

The furniture and facilities in the room are custom made.
The bedroom on the second floor brings back the concept of “harmony between the history of the building and modern comfort.”

I was born and raised in Hiroshima, but my mother's hometown is on Kojima island, Ehime prefecture. When I was little, I used to climb up on the roof of an orange warehouse and gaze at the picturesque islands of Seto. They were really beautiful. Now that I'm a bit older, I’m happy to be able to spend time working as a photo-writer and conveying the beauty and charm of the Seto Inland Sea. As well as writing at home, I live a short walk from the World Heritage site of Miyajima, I also work as a teacher and am currently studying color psychology.Hashtags
