Tokushima

Tokushima is the starting point of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Shikoku Henro or Shikoku Junrei is a multi-site pilgrimage of 88 temples associated with the Buddhist Monk "Kukai". Surrounded to the East and West by mountains, fan-shaped plains cover the area. Due to its unique location, which is somewhat different to other Setouchi prefectures, while the Seto Inland Sea provides a variety of fabulous seafood, the mountains provide fresh fruit and vegetables. In terms of entertainment, one significant point about Tokushima is the Awa Dance. When an Awa Dance festival is held, numerous dynamic dancers crowd the streets and show everyone present the life-force of Tokushima - a truly great experience, not to missed. Other local attractions include the famous Naruto whirlpools, the Kazurabashi bridge in the relatively unexplored region of Iya, secluded mountain villages, and not forgeting rafting through the Oboke Mountain Pass. There are a lot of places you can visit to feel the nature of Tokushima.
