Yamaguchi Akama-jingu Shrine
This shrine is dedicated to Antoku, a Japanese emperor who drowned himself at the age of eight years old who were defeated in the Battle of Dan-no-ura, which occured in 1185. The contrast between the white walls in front of the Kanmon Straits, and the vivid vermilion Suitenmon Gate is a must see. In the precinct, there is Heike's tombs and a treasure museum that exhibits items related to the Heike family. During May 2 to May 4, the shrine hosts an annual festival called Senteisai or The Emperors Festival.
