Ehime Warei Shrine Festival, Uwajima Ushi-Oni Festival

A summer festival held in Uwajima City, Ehime prefecture, where various performances can be seen for 3 days from annually July 22nd until July 24th. The highlight is the family ushi-oni parade on the final day. "Uni-oshi" is a float (dashi) made from bamboo, around 5 to 6 meters in length, with a long neck and a face like a demon, covered with red cloth or hair on the body. While children make noise with a horn instruments called the Bouyale, these cow demon floats wander the streets. It’s very impressive.
